This image is a time capsule extracted from Dave Splaine’s film camera. I don’t know when it was taken. The roll of Kodak Gold was in the camera when I received it and the image is one of two he shot. The capture happened after the vessel passed beneath the Newport Bridge. It is more than a photograph. I can hear Dave’s bellowing voice, barking out witty quips and delivering the syrupy punch lines that earned him the nickname “Smooth”. Dave loved Narragansett Bay and being with his friends and family there. As I scrolled through the images from the roll, I tried to recall when I had taken the image, then the truth dawned on me and I immediately put this post together. It’s a good way to start my day.
