American Eagle and Courageous Collide

I photographed the Herreshoff Marine Museum Classic Yacht Regatta again this year thanks to the kindness of Bob and Kathy “with a K” Millard. We witnessed a collision, at the leeward mark between the America’s Cup 12 Meter racing yachts “American Eagle” and “Courageous”. Courageous was trailing and tried to get inside room at the mark leading to the collision. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. The boat could easily have sunk. She left Bristol Harbor and hopefully made its way safely back to Newport.

There is one great image taken by Kathy Millard during the run to the fateful event where American Eagle held a slight lead over the legendary Courageous. I brought along a camera for her to use and she did great!
