We are off for the long drive to Florida today. Christmas as always was a bittersweet time. This statue at Linden Place in Bristol resonates for me. Having lost a child, it reminds me of tender moments with my daughter Victoria. My Uncle was flipping through some old photographs on Christmas Eve, and there were many images of Victoria at his backyard pool, on Halloween and at other times. My feelings were mixed with the warmth of my family gathering, and the pain of loss.
On to more mundane things. For my photo kit, I am bring 3 film cameras. A Nikon FM3a, Leica M6 and Pentax 645. As we wind our way through the southern United States there will be good opportunities to photograph rural and small town Americana. In Florida, my intent is to photograph colorful old Florida buildings showing signs of wear from time and the weather’s ferocity. I have a plan, and we will see how I do with it.
Be well. Happy New Year to all.
