I am experimenting with this whimsical camera. I ruined a lot of shots by forgetting to set the focus at the correct distance. Hmmm, an autofocus Holga would have saved me!
The statue images were made with Lomocolor 400 ’92, doubling down on the retro theme. The Lomo was given to me by my friend Tracey Nixon Bos. I got one particularly sharp and colorful image of a stature in a diffused light area using flash.
The more colorful images were made using Kodak Portra 400. The camera with Portra likes light, but not too much. Indoors without flash, and even using Portra in overcast conditions resulted in muddier underexposed images. Using an ND filter to get longer exposure teams seems like a good idea.
The lens flares pretty badly when there is a hint of direct sun in the background. I tried to shield it using the trees but still got some fogging and flare.
Straight lines are just not going to happen. This is not a camera to use for the brick wall shot!
With the fixed shutter speed, I think double exposures will require using an ND filter to half the exposure times. I am looking forward to better double exposure results. Regardless, I gave it a try and to get the second image to resonate required editing.
Unlike other Holga models, on the GCFN with the benefit of an optical glass lens comes the detriment of no hot shoe. The flash on this model is quite weak.
All in all, I am happy with my first foray with the Holga.

I think these are all really great Louis! As you know, I’m an avid admirer of the lo-fi look. If I really had to choose a fave, I’d say the flowers in the window of outside reflections. But, I think they all look cool. Happy experimenting! Steve…
