A few weeks ago Cathy and I took a day trip from Chatham to Provincetown. My Iphone fell out of my camera bag, and from the wonders of technology, I was able to pinpoint it being at the Provincetown Police Station. On the return ride, I stopped at the site in South Wellfleet where Guglielmo Marconi’s transmission towers were installed, resulting in the first trans-Atlantic radio transmission between Teddy Roosevelt and the English king. As stated in a sign at the entrance, the majority of the installations were consumed by the sea. What remains are a few concrete foundations and some heavy chain and wood remnants. It was great to visit this site, since I have done some reading on Marconi’s quest to master radio waves, including the tussle with the English scientific community in the race to be the first. There is a Marconi Museum near Chatham that I did not get a chance to visit. Shot with Pentax 645 and (I think) Fuji Pro400H.
