Memories of Time on the Water

I went to the Park in early afternoon hoping to get in some practice with capturing birds in flight. This is an unremarkable image, shot into hazy mid-day light and the boats were about a half mile or more away. Watching these two boats bound for an extended cruise brought back memories of cruises my family took with the Bristol Yacht Club and my brother Joe’s family, the Millard family, the Hamel family and the Hayes family and so many other good people. We had such good times. What comes to immediate memory is being on a bus to Oak Bluffs in Martha’s Vineyard and Matt got us all going singing the “Wheels on the Bus” song. Our young children knew every word of the song and chortled along with glee. I miss the sense of adventure comes from piloting a boat to a distant destination, trying my best to sail her well, reading charts and plotting courses, having lunch under way, and the joy of arrival. All of us would agree those were special times that will remain etched in our memories forever.
