Hasselblad as an action camera at dusk?

This was a complete lark. The light was dying and I decided to try the sharp 180mm lens on my Hasselblad 500 CM to shoot surfers. Yes, completely nuts. I believe I shot at box speed using Fuji Pro 400H and let it rip. I used the 180MM F4 lens, apparently one of Hasselblad’s sharpest lenses. Wide open at F4. Surprisingly, I got several decent shots. The waves were nothing to shout about however, so the action was more inaction surf wise. There was not enough reach to really capture the action, but this gives me confidence in my ability to hand hold and shoot this camera in low light. No I won’t be using this camera to shoot the Indy 500 (or maybe I will!) but it was a fun and whimsical way to close out a wonderful weekend of shooting film. I got some other good images that I will post over the coming days. I think this camera will shine as a portrait tool, so that is on the to do list.

Hi Geoff. Thank you for the kind comment. It’s more like insanity! I tried this on a lark at the end of a long but enjoyable day of film photography. I shoot the 80mm 99% of the time on this camera – I honestly don’t see the need for another lens based on my style.
