As I continue to flip through the scans from my marathon day with the Hasselblad it is a learning experience. This shot was taken at dusk using Fuji Pro 400H and the 180mm F4 lens. This is apparently one of the system’s sharpest lenses, and this image (shot handheld at a shutter speed perilously close to or less than focal length) bears that out. I know I metered off of the gray sand, but I did not (and unfortunately never do) write down the shutter speed. I did meter the film at box speed given the light. I think use of this camera on a tripod with longer exposures and an ND or other filter would produce interesting results.
Second Beach in Middletown has many memories for me. My parents used to take the family there with other families from the faculty of my dad’s high school history department. We would stay all day and cookout as the sun eased to the horizon. It was here that I became a good body surfer. To this day I take a wave in until my belly rubs the shallow bottom.
Pixel peeping of the image shows more grain than I am used to with Pro400H since I usually shoot the film in more light at ISO 200. The grain is pleasing. This was a great film stock that unfortunately is discontinued. I have one more roll and will save it for my June film photography trip to Portland Oregon.
I am in the process of a big reduction is my camera collection. Having so many cameras is stressful. It creates pressure to use them. Having less will hopefully result in more happiness and better work.
