Westport to Cuttyhunk

A thunderstorm skirted by us last night while we were moored in Westport Harbor. The morning brought heavy rain but a small window of clear weather opened with a following tide so we departed for Cuttyhunk Island.

It was neat to photograph the decoy lighthouse tower built during WW II near Gooseberry Beach in Westport.

We saw a large and tall barge approaching from the south. As it passed, we observed the barge transporting giant wind vanes standing stoutly in their storage racks.

We passed the vessel graveyard called “Hens and Chickens” where the skeleton of a vessel that met its fate ominously resides.

The rain returned about half way into Buzzard’s Bay which we traversed under sail.

We arrived in Cuttyhunk Harbor at about 4 p.m. The light was very soft from the overcast conditions.
