I just returned from a several month stay at our home in Venice, Florida. It was good to not experience the historic winter storms in New England. I carried a camera at all times, but shot sparingly. Florida has an antiseptic feel that contrasts with the historic character of my Rhode Island roots, and does not translate well to my eye for photography. A highlight of this stay was tuning into the concert offerings at Troll Music, a small guitar sale and repair shop in Venice. The venue is small and intimate and the performers interact with the audience, making one feel a part of the creative experience. I love photographing performers. A draw is the energy and passion of the performance. Another draw is envy – I wish that during my life I had dedicated myself to an instrument as a means of self-expression and simple joy to supplement my love of music. I dabble with guitar in fits and starts and hopefully if my life slows down, I will find the time to gain a modicum of skill and the courage to play with others.
Matthew Curry put on a great performance. He is a virtuoso guitarist, nailing great riffs of original songs. An especially great song was a cover of Jonny Winter’s Frankenstein. His drummer was right on, and performed a smackingly great blues song.
I hope you enjoy the images as I do.
